Step 1 of 3: Volunteer Information
As a volunteer with the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue, you hold a position of great importance. With this position comes considerable responsibility and accountability, and the privilege of having contact with the animals who call the shelter their home.
The purpose of completing the application is to allow the SPCA Animal Rescue to determine the ability and suitability of the candidate to perform work on behalf of the shelter.
Our goal is to ensure that the partnership between the SPCA Animal Rescue and each volunteer will be of benefit to both.
Volunteers are asked to commit for a minimum of one year to ensure that the volunteer has received the proper training and is familiar with all policies and procedures. In cases where a volunteer cannot commit to a one-year volunteer term, the Shelter Manager and/or Volunteer Committee may approve a short-term placement in accordance with operational needs.
• Provide a Criminal Record Check (at their own expense, should fees exist);
• Complete the SPCA Animal Rescue Orientation;
• Complete an On-the-Job-Training session with an experienced volunteer, and
• Agree to the minimum time requirements for the various volunteer positions
As a condition of acceptance into a volunteer position, applicants must provide two professional references and a criminal record check (letter to be provided).
If yes, you may be considered for the volunteer program but your parent/guardian must also fill out an application, become a volunteer, and volunteer with you.

If you are an adult volunteer who will be accompanied by a Support Person, your Support Person must also fill out an application, become a volunteer, and volunteer with you.
Volunteer hours are Sunday to Saturday between the hours of 11 am to 5 pm (The shelter is closed after 5 pm)
