We can help you find the right pet for your family.

Each year we find new homes for hundreds of cats and dogs. We work hard to ensure good matches and will tell you everything we know about the animals.

The animals that come into our care deserve a second chance at a new beginning. By adopting from the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue you are helping to ensure these animals have the happy life they deserve.

PROCESS

Start with an application.

The process is the same for everyone.

Applications must be approved, simply applying does not guarantee approval. Approval is based on the best interest of the animal. We refuse any application we think is not in the animal’s best interest.

STEP 1

Fill in a pet adoption application.

STEP 2

Choose from available pets.

STEP 3 (IF YOU RENT)

Get your landlord’s permission.

EXPECTATIONS

What do we expect from pet adopters?

There are a few restrictions on who we accept to adopt pets:

Please ensure you are willing to commit to the animal for their natural life. Please think about the long-term responsibilities of owning a pet.

You must be 21 years of age and provide a valid identification with a current address.

Animals cannot be adopted as a gift for someone else, for breeding purposes or for the purpose of protection.

All animals in your home must be spayed or neutered (if age appropriate).

All other dogs or cats (if applicable) in your household must be licensed.

Supervised visits will then be scheduled. The number of visits will depend on the dog and home.

The first visit is for the adult applicant (primary caregiver).

The other visits are for children, the family dog, or other dogs the adopted dog will interact with.

A pre-adoption home visit may be required.

GETTING HOME

What happens when you take your pet home?

All animals adopted from the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue must be transported home in a safe manner.

It will take some time for your new companion to adjust to a new home. It is very important you give your adopted companion the time to adjust to your environment and to go through the training process.
